Couponing is not complicated but you do need to know the rules. Staying ethical will help you sleep at night and make transactions easier at the register.
Follow these Rules and you will win at the couponing game!
Never photocopy a Printable Coupon – Photocopying a coupon is considered fraud and can lead you to jail. Each coupon has individual serial numbers on them. While they will scan at the register when they reach the manufacturer and are processed the store will not receive the cash for the coupon. That’s stealing from the store and placing them on probation. Just don’t do it!
Do not buy coupons – There is a clause on coupons that states that they are not transferrable. Any monetary transaction to transfer a coupon from one person to another voids the coupon.
Save some for the rest of us! – Do not steal every coupon in the blinkie machine or tear off every coupon on a tear pad because it’s just unfair. Be reasonable.
Be careful what you rip off – I don’t mean stealing per se. Some items have coupon stickers attached to them called peelies. Never peel off a peelie unless you are purchasing the product right then and there. The purchaser will get a little hot under the collar when they see a savings sticker was lifted from their bag.
Know your store’s policies – Some stores double all of your like coupons and some do not. Some will only double up to a dollar and others allow overages if your coupon is worth more than the product. Each store has their own policy and will let you know if they deny a certain coupon and their reasoning. Policies can be found at the Customer service Desk and/or on their website.
Be nice to your Cashier – Always be respectful to your cashier and as a result they will be helpful to you. They work hard scanning, bagging and making you feel welcome! Their guidance helps you to save and makes you happy. Always pay it forward!
